Go FOS, its yah birthday! One year and 150 posts to date!!!

Aug 11th, 2008 | By Irie Diva | Category: FOS News and Press, Sales and Contests

So its our (me and you, this is your blog too) anniversary guys, one year ago I started this blog with the vision on speaking my mind on fashion from Jamrock, trends, news, issues, our designers, our models, our stylists and the likes. It has been a fun ride and so many have you have been there from the very beginning so I know you are having just as much fun too! Commenters like Jhay, Ryo, the Ryans, come to mind as foundation peeps, Sheroma who came on board along the way to showcase her unique and amazing makeup abilities, the party-promoters who have embraced us and asked me to educate their patrons on executing their intricate dress codes and who can forget the great debate over Queen Ifrica’s red dress !

How about one of my most popular posts to date is still this interview I did on the scrumptious Jamaican model Oraine Barrett, and this post on shift dresses . The metallic trend I reported on a while back is still in high gear and matchy matchy is still not required! Have you added some cobalt blue in your closet ? What about some bright prints ?

Covering Caribbean Fashion Week was a huge success and it was so much fun! Indashio was fun to meet and party with as well and helping to boost Dashielle’s swim shop has been a proud moment for me, as I set out to help boost our local fashion industry. I’ve been interviewed by Jamrock Online mag, compared by Silicone Caribe, and have gotten rave reviews from readers all around the world saying kudos on a job well done. I’ve come along way from this first post on skinny models on a site that was hosted for free on blogger.com and my amazing first interview with Keneea Linton that has garnered a thriving industry partnership. I’ve been contacted to cover so many Jamaican designers, some of which I didn’t even know existed, and I know that I set out to do exactly what I wanted, to give Jamaican fashion a strong presence, peppered with my own quirky style and trend reports.

So I want you to join in the celebrations with of course, a giveaway! Keneea has graciously offered up FOS’s first birthday gift, this size small, structured dress that would make a snazzy addition to your work wardrobe. All you have to do is leave a comment telling me why you like this dress and why you love FashionOverStyle.NET and I’ll randomly select a winner!

You can click for larger image, thanks once again to FOS fave Keneea Linton for such a wonderful gift. Thank you guys once more for all the support over the past year, continue to spread the word about the site and send in your lines for review and your trendy pictures. I have more birthday giveaways coming up so stay plugged!

    Congratumalations, Monique!!!

My breasts are not going to work for a size small but I’ll say anyway that I’m most in love with the easy breezy colour…second would be how versatile it is. Tea Party – Work – Whatever…It’s down. :-)

  7. tea party? ok miss mala you go ahead! LOL

  8. Happy Birthday FOS!!!

Fashion over Style is truly what the name suggests, a site that illustrates everything there is to know pertaining to the world of fashion by incorporating different and out of the ordinary styles and this is what I love about the site. Although my comments are not as frequent as the Ryan’s, when reviewing the site, there is a lot to explore and it leaves me with something to think about when coordinating my own personal style. FOS started out as a site geared towards the exposure of new and upcoming designers and fashionista’s and it keeps loyal and committed to this idea. Girly your commitment to this ideal is great for the development of the Jamaican Fashion Industry and the Caribbean Fashion Community at Large.

As for the dress, it is an A++ in my book Sassy and Cute (like me). It is a great incorporation of the fashionable pocket style with a touch of sophistication that can be worn to any function. It doesn’t hurt that it is a size small..lol.

Move over DrKizzy you have some competition :) .

  9. Congrats FOS! :-) We’re proud of you Monique :-)

And the dress can’t even fit me…so doe bother choosing me. Lol.

  16. Aye Aye Aye, that dress would so do me well in a medium Miss Mo and yes my engagement party coming up soon so that’s a gift to consider (I’m sure Kaneaa wouldn’t mind giving you this in one size up). Or even if its in Small, i mean a girl can go to the gym eh?
Anyhoodle, FOS has been happening. It really was a great concept to begin with and i especially love the updates on what’s currently hot and the exposure given to local (and international) talent (still loving the ruffle dress from Tifa’s interview).
Oh and why i like this dress:
    1. Can i say ‘designer wear’ – woieee
    2. I’ve recently had a major fascination with varied shades of green (should see the shade i’m planning to use for the wed)
    3. The dress is just uber chic (I absolutely love it for the fact that it has pockets yet they don’t come ’swaying’ off like so many of those pocket dresses have.
    4. And oh yes, the legs- he he he- i think my legs would look great in this, showing just a peek of my upper and giving the full 100 on my lower. tee hee

So there goes, my gosh i was sooo genuine when writing this (extra points) that i forgot it was also meant to help me win the dress :-D

  17. Yay! Congrats and keep it going!

  18. Yea, its my size. I’d rock this baby with some cute sandals. I love this site for all the fashion info.

  19. Oooo… cute dress! And in my size?! Awesome!! Happy Birthday FOS!! Woot!!

  20. I love the wonderful summer color of the dress and the cut definitely has style and adds poise to the wearer. It’s a flattering cut and I’d love to win it! Fashion Over Style is great because they’re all hot about Carribean fashion which is vibrant, colorful and absolutely stylish! Thanks so much :)

  21. Congrats on the birthday Monz! I know I’m 2 days late but o well it’s the thought that counts
Since that dress isnt my size i’m not posting to enter to win it
    BUT just so you know
The dress is GREEN!!! omg u KNOW i luv green ^_^ and pinstripe is great for the corporate scene and who’s to tell maybe even a cocktail party. the belt really accentuates a small waist and creates a curve (along with the pinstripe and cut of the dress) both above and below the waist. The length of the dress also creates height. it accentuates the length of the girls legs and for a person of shorter stature it wouls give them the appearance of a little more height.

as for FOS, FOS (tho i may not post much) does in fact give me decent pointers on what to wear and where to wear it. Not to mention what’s in fashion and what’s hot for work attire (sadly it wont apply to me :( white uniform or scrubs for the rest of my life). ANYWAYS keep up the good work

  22. Go deh Monique u site haaard!!! Love it because of ur quirky writing style and cool fashion features!!! and by the way that dress makes ‘green’ my new favourite colour – even ‘green’ with envy at the potential lucky winner!! lol See u for ur next feature! Who’s to tell, probably it’ll be my sassy little number at work that next lights up ur site !!
    P.S. – Happy Birthday Fashionoverstyle!

  23. Love the dress. Its so pretty and I love the color and the cut. The bonus is it’ my size. I would love to wear this dress. Love Fashion Over Style because they have so much advice and everything is so great.

  24. I like the clean lines and fitted style of the dress. It’s really pretty! I love Fashion Over Style especially for the bargain versions of celebrity fashion styles. Content is updated frequently and it’s a very friendly and warm blog. Happy Birthday!

  25. Nah lie, mi kinda vex how d launch gone and I still haven’t gotten MY DRESS! Yes, Kerri… it is MY DRESS ;p (lol)
But I’m still watching and waiting and giving nuff props to the Irie Diva. Chile, can I tell u how I neva know bout this Maxi Plaid trend? Dear me! (WTF is up with that name, dude?) Well, thanks for that last update cuz it has certainly given me sumn to consider for when the disposable income is on flow again :)
