They come in coral too:

Video: Trying to lighten my henna’d hair

Posted by on Apr 28, 2012 in Hair and Beauty | 2 comments

I love hair colour. Been addicted ever since I left high school and started processing my head. It’s mostly been some shade of blonde, I’ve never really liked red, wasn’t bright enough and trying to get it bright started to look clownish to me.

I decided to try red while my hair was short to see if I’d like it and you’ve seen the results if you’ve been following my hair story. Not enough impact so I decided to try and lighten my hair first and then henna over it again to get that bright red henna result. Hopefully.

The problem is that henna stays on your hair. It grows out, it doesn’t wash out or anything. I should have just gone to my stylist and allowed her to bleach my hair but nooooooooo miss DIY that I have become I’ve been applying box colour to my hair and I haven’t been getting the best results. Two months post big chop: tips, tricks and routine

Irie Diva and Munchkin

Matching blue dresses :D It’s been two months since I decided to finally go natural and chop off my hair and it feels like it’s been forever! I’ve learnt a lot, tried a lot and I’m excited about the future of my hair! LOL! I’ve definitely seen the inch or maybe even more of growth that is projected for a 2 month period. In fact, it was going through that weird, not-sure-what-to-do-with-it growing out stage and so I actually chopped down the sides to give me a very weird mullet/mohawk shape, but I think it looks a little better than just a ball of clown-looking curls.

ALOE me to introduce you to my VERA favourite hair treatment!

I’m corny I know. I read somewhere that aloe vera was amazing for hair and of course I ran to try it since I had a plant in my yard. Now let me tell you, the heavens opened up that day and angels sang!

My granny, bless her heart, has been trying to get me to take aloe, or sinkle bible as we West Indians call it, internally forever. I don’t know how in the world she gets that horridly bitter, slimy thing down her throat but I’m sure it has something to do with her still kickin’ today! I distinctly remember her attempt as a child to force it down my throat and I ran to the bathroom for cover, grabbing the sugar bowl as I dashed, trying to erase the taste from my throat. YUCK!

A Blue Mani

I phased out putting acrylics on my nails some time back for several reasons. For one, I realised that I wasn’t on the type of budget any more that allowed the bi-monthly upkeep it needs. That meant that I’d do them for a special occasion, then  after two weeks they looked like sh** and were a pain to sit and soak off. Secondly, I had long stopped wearing them very long. Even when I got acrylics, they were always short and painted full polish, one colour, no designs. Designs were so college days. Thirdly, I never really had a problem growing my natural nails. I drink a lot of milk after all. ;) And a by-product of using natural oils in my hair has definitely been the strengthening of my nails. They chip much less these days. So with all of that blended together along with a pin I recently repinned on my pinterest page, my interest in doing my own nails resurfaced with a vengeance. I did a short course in nails one time long time when I wanted to make a few bucks while going to school and though I’m no artist, I can at least do my own nails.
