Crystals for Anxiety: The Best Stones to Help Your Keep Calm

Can crystals help with anxiety?

Crystals are often associated with healing, wellness, and relaxation. They can be used to help keep calm during difficult times.

One way to use crystals for anxiety is through meditation. Meditation can involve using crystals in a quiet place while focusing on deep breathing to help you relax the mind and body. This can work well for many people who look to manage anxiety naturally by incorporating alternative methods of treatment alongside other medication or practice therapies, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT).

Finding out which crystal or stones are best for you, however, relies on knowing what your personal needs are when it comes to calming yourself down. There are many ways that stones may help with this goal, but only you will be able to figure out what works best for you.

Let’s look first at what constitutes anxiety.

What is anxiety and what is OCD?

Anxiety is defined as a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome. There are many types of anxiety disorders such as generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder (SAD), specific phobias such as agoraphobia, panic disorders including panic attacks, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Anxiety is generally caused by poor coping strategies, faulty thinking patterns, and avoidance behaviors.

A person who has OCD experiences unwanted thoughts that lead to compulsive behaviors either in an attempt to feel better or neutralize the distressing thought. Common compulsions include hand washing, compulsive checking, and mental rituals such as repeating a prayer in an attempt to make the distressing thought go away.

So can you use crystals for anxiety and OCD?

When trying to figure out which crystal or stone is best for you, it’s helpful to consider their metaphysical properties, such as where the stone comes from and what types of energy they carry.

Many crystals can be programmed with your intentions by meditating on them and visualizing these positive qualities. Once programmed, try holding the stone while you focus on the goal of feeling calmer during times when anxiety hits. Then take deep breaths and visualize all of the negative emotions leaving your body along with each exhale. Meditating like this is a great way to help maintain balance in stressful situations. Stones and crystals that you might want to keep on hand or wear as jewelry include:

Amethyst – Amethyst is a violet/purple stone that is popular for its metaphysical properties. It’s considered the “crown chakra” stone, which means it’s associated with spiritual growth as well as calming anxiety. Amethyst also has strong protective powers against negative energy from the environment around you.

Turquoise – This lovely blue-green stone can help connect you to nature spirits, earth energies, and aids in grounding your emotions so they don’t take over during times of anxiety or stress. Turquoise carries a “throat chakra” energy, so it aligns with communication and helps ease stress-related issues such as throat tension.

Clear quartz – Clear quartz emits a strong energy of protection, which can help empower you during stressful times. Wearing or carrying it on the body also helps to enhance intuition so you feel more trusting of your insights during times of stress. Clear quartz has no “chakra” energies associated with it, so it goes with any chakra color choice. Some people have found success by wearing all clear quartz to harness its protective qualities against negative energy from external sources.

Lapis lazuli – Lapis Lazuli is often considered the stone of truth as ancient lapis beads were used as eye paint in ancient Egypt where they believed that blue lapis would allow them to see into other worlds through their third eye chakra. Its metaphysical properties include deep wisdom, truth, serenity, courage, and enlightenment. This stone comes in many shades of blue with gold flecks in it, so choose the shade that feels most healing to you.

Lepidolite – Lepidolite is a calming stone that works to clear away negative emotions while enhancing feelings of joy, happiness, and serenity. It’s also useful for relieving stress related to heart conditions which can be caused by anxiety.

Fluorite – Fluorite clears your energy field of any negativity that may have leaked into your aura during stressful times when you are not aware it’s happening. It also enhances intuition so you feel more connected to your higher self during times when fear tries to take over.

Some people report good luck wearing lapis lazuli or fluorite as a pendant on a gold chain around their neck. This keeps the stones close to your aura so they can help calm the mind and emotions during times of stress.

How do you use these crystals?

You can wear them as jewelry, keep them in your pocket, place them under your pillow at night, hold them during meditation sessions, or any combination of these ideas that feels right for you.

Some people like to carry small stones with them whenever possible because if there is a problem it’s easier to access the stone immediately rather than having to go home first before using it. Many people simply place their crystals near their bed so they are safely tucked away from little ones who might want to play with them, but they are close enough to have a calming effect on the mind during times of stress.

Many people do not feel comfortable wearing jewelry except for special occasions, so it’s fine to put your crystals in your pocket when you go out so they can work their magic when you need calming help.

You may choose to try several different stones before finding the one that feels most effective for you or you may find that one particular stone works best for you in all situations. It all depends on what energy resonates deeply inside of you and brings comfort when stressful situations arise.

Some people like to wear just one color of crystal at a time while others like multiple combinations for their healing properties. If you are new to crystals for stress relief it’s best to try one rock at a time so you can see how it works before trying several different colors during the same period of time.

When you receive a new crystal it’s wise to cleanse it first by placing it outside under the moonlight for one full cycle. This will help remove any other person’s energy that may be left behind after they wore or carried the crystal.

Every once in a while you may want to clear them of any negative energy that has seeped into your stones. If this happens all you need to do is place them outside during a new moon overnight and they will be refreshed and ready for use again when you pick them up the next day.

Remember, even though these crystals are natural products there are still some general safety precautions that should be taken whenever using any type of stone healing technique. If you have allergies to certain gems please choose items made from alternative materials so you can benefit from their healing properties without any adverse reactions.

You should never use a crystal in place of seeing a medical professional when you have an illness or serious medical condition. If you have a chronic illness such as asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, high blood pressure, or other conditions that require ongoing medication please consult your doctor before changing your treatment plan to include crystals for anxiety.
